The relationship between psychological capital and mindfulness skills with psychology students' test anxiety

Abstract

The purpose of the present research is to determine the relationship between psychological capital and mindfulness skills with the test anxiety of psychology students. The statistical population of the research was all female psychology students in the three undergraduate, graduate and doctoral courses of the Islamic Azad University, central Tehran branch in the academic year 2001-2001, and their number was 1360. The intended sample in this research was determined by using Morgan's table, 297 people were selected by available sampling method. In this research, three questionnaires were used to collect data. Pearson's correlation coefficient and multivariate regression analysis were used to analyze the data. The results of the research showed that there is an inverse and significant correlation between the total score of mindfulness skills and exam anxiety. Also, an inverse and significant relationship was observed between the total score of psychological capital and test anxiety. Among the components of mindfulness, the two components of concentration and description have an inverse relationship with test anxiety, and no significant relationship was observed between the two components of observation and acceptance with test anxiety. Among the components of psychological capital, self-efficacy, resilience, and hope showed an inverse and significant relationship with test anxiety, and no significant relationship was observed between the component of optimism and test anxiety. The results of the regression analysis also showed that the total score of mindfulness skills and psychological capital are able to predict exam anxiety, among which the contribution of the total score of mindfulness skills is higher.
