Abstract

This scientific-research article examines historical approaches, drawing upon the geopolitical situation of Afghanistan and its impacts on the process of regional and transregional economic development. The significance of this study lies in achieving a deeper understanding of Afghanistan’s unique position as a conduit of political and transit transformations among regional countries, particularly in relation to the unlawful interventions of the economic policies of global superpowers in the contemporary era. This is especially important as Afghanistan’s current positioning serves as a compelling example reflective of earlier periods preceding its contemporary history. Recent deterioration in relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan illustrates that the dynamics of economic circulation across South Asia, Central Asia, and even extending to Western regions such as Europe, can be influenced by Afghanistan’s policies.

Accordingly, this study deems it necessary to highlight the economic governance process of Afghanistan, emphasizing that, for the improvement of economic conditions, Afghan policymakers should preserve the country’s strategic position vis-à-vis major powers through diplomacy and maximize national political and economic interests by expanding avenues of engagement with major capitalist countries. This research is grounded in a review-based, library-oriented methodology, relying on primary sources and scholarly references by experienced researchers, and employs critical, analytical, descriptive, and interpretative methods in examining the relevant materials.

Ultimately, the overall findings of this article can be summarized as follows: the study endeavors to analyze ancient trade routes, such as the Silk Road, while particularly emphasizing political and economic transformations and highlighting Afghanistan’s economic position in the contemporary era
