Air pollution stands as one of the most significant environmental consequences of refinery operations. This pollution stems from the release of particulate matter, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulfur oxides (SOx), and other harmful pollutants that pose risks to human health and the environment. Considering the economic importance of the oil industry and the drive to develop and construct new refineries, it is essential to evaluate the environmental impacts and propose mitigation strategies before commencing construction. This study, focusing on air pollution, will provide definitions and concepts related to air pollution from the refinery industry, address the management challenges associated with this environmental problem, and present solutions. For this purpose, credible sources were used to identify the main pollutants released and their sources. Finally, by synthesizing the findings and comparing them with the existing situation in Iran, proposals in this regard are presented.
