Challenges and Opportunities of the Theology of Resistance in the Contemporary World with Emphasis on the Role and Position of the Family in the Thought of the Martyred Leader Imam Khamenei

Abstract

Cultural, social, and media transformations in the contemporary world have created new challenges and opportunities for religious thought, particularly for the theology of resistance. In this context, the family—as the first and most important educational and social institution—plays a fundamental role in transmitting religious values, strengthening cultural identity, and shaping a spirit of resistance within society. In the thought of the martyred leader, Imam Khamenei, the family also holds a central position in nurturing a faithful, aware, and resilient generation capable of confronting cultural and social threats. Accordingly, the main question of this study is what challenges and opportunities the theology of resistance faces in the contemporary world and what role the family plays in strengthening and sustaining this approach in the thought of the martyred leader Imam Khamenei. The aim of this research is to explain the most significant challenges and opportunities of the theology of resistance with particular emphasis on the role and function of the family within this intellectual framework. This study employs a descriptive–analytical method and is based on library research, scholarly sources, and relevant statements and writings. The findings indicate that factors such as the spread of individualism, the influence of global media culture, the globalization of values, changes in family structures, economic pressures, and the emergence of identity crises among younger generations constitute some of the most significant challenges facing the theology of resistance within the family sphere. On the other hand, strengthening religious and cultural identity, increasing social awareness, utilizing the capacities of new media, and reinforcing family cohesion and solidarity are among the opportunities that can play an effective role in promoting the culture of resistance and transmitting its values to new generations.
