Abstract

This paper provides a comprehensive review of electrical energy distribution networks and the challenges associated with their design, operation, and optimization. Electrical energy, being one of the essential needs of modern societies, must be efficiently and reliably transmitted to consumers. The design of distribution networks should not only meet the growing energy demands but also minimize energy losses and ensure environmental sustainability. This paper explores different types of distribution networks, including overhead and underground systems, and categorizes them based on voltage levels. Moreover, challenges such as energy losses, high construction and maintenance costs, and environmental issues in the design of distribution networks are examined. Innovative solutions, such as the use of smart technologies for network management and optimization, are proposed. One of the key innovations of this study is the use of optimization algorithms to reduce energy losses and enhance efficiency. In the methodology section, the research approach is outlined, focusing on data collection from library and field sources, and data analysis using statistical software and simulation. Additionally, the essential equipment needed for distribution networks, such as transformers, cables, circuit breakers, and protection systems, are introduced and their functions are discussed. Finally, mechanical calculations related to distribution lines, including wire tension, sag, and span, are presented to improve network performance and safety. This paper serves as a comprehensive reference for designers and operators of electrical energy distribution networks and aims to contribute to the improvement of network performance and the reduction of operational costs.
