Abstract

Considering the importance of investigating the relationship between energy consumption, economic growth and environmental sustainability, in this study, the effect of energy efficiency and economic growth on environmental sustainability was investigated. The statistical population of the research includes the countries that are members of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council, which include Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Oman, and Kuwait, and the information of the aforementioned countries was examined in the period from 2000 to 2019. The information was extracted from the World Bank website and the World Energy Sustainability website. ARDL model was used for data analysis. The results obtained from the study showed that countries with higher energy efficiency lead to a reduction in carbon pollution and an increase in environmental sustainability. Increasing production also reduces carbon pollution in the short term, but in the long term, it does not create an effect on carbon pollution.
